TheDurhamSaltScreenisaproteinstABIlityscreenandwasdesignedbyEhmkePohl,MortenGrøftehaugeandEmilyCardewatDurhamUniversitytobeusedwithaproteinstabilityassaysuchasthethermalshiftassay(alsoknownasThermoFluor®).Proteinstabilityscreensdeterminefactorsaffectingthethermaldenaturationofproteinsandhencetheirgeneralstability.Increasedproteinstabilityincreasesproteaseresistance,solubilityandimportantly,crystallizability.
Saltsarebothcommonprecipitatingagainstandadditivesincrystallizationconditions.Identifyingthosewithasignificanteffectonyourprotein"sstabilityisavitalfirststepinstructuredetermination.Thisscreencontainsmorethan30differentsalts,includingthemostcommoncationsandanions,chaotropicsaltsandalanthanideseriesforpossIBLephasingmethods.InadditionitincludesthecommonreducingagentsDTTandTCEP.
